Achievements
1. A Patent was filed on 30th May 2024 by Sandi Kumar Reddy, Anil S Naik, M Aruna, Mandela Govinda Raj for the development of “AN IOT-ENABLED REAL-TIME EARLY WARNING HAZARD MONITORING SYSTEM FOR UNDERGROUND MINE ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS “(Application No.202441042240) .
2. Prof. Harsha Vardhan received the prestigious Prof. Satish Dhawan State Award for Young Engineers, 2019 from the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Government of Karnataka in appreciation and recognition of outstanding contribution in the field of Engineering Sciences. The award comprised of Citation, Gold Medal and Cash Prize.
3.A Patent was granted on 11th May 2022 by the Indian Government to Mr. Harish Hanumanthappa, Prof. Harsha Vardhan, Prof. Govinda Raj Mandela, Mr. Bharat Kumar Shanmugham, Mr. Mudhunuru Varma Raju, and Dr. Harish Kumar N S for the development of “HYDRO-SQUEEZE PRESSURE FILTERING FOR THE EFFICIENT BENEFICIATION OF COAL MATERIAL “(Patent NO.396632) .
4. A Patent was granted on 14th July 2021 by the Australian Government to Dr. Harish Kumar N S, Dr. R P Choudhary, and Prof. Ch. S. N. Murthy for the development of a “METHOD FOR EVOLUTION OF PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION OF SHOVEL- DUMPER COMBINATION IN OPENCAST COAL MINE “(Patent NO.2021102416).
5. Prof. Harsha Vardhan and Prof. Govinda Raj M have received the best paper award for the technical paper entitled " Experimental and Prediction Analysis of the Screening Performance of Coal in Linear and Circular Vibratory screen" presented at the 35th Indian Engineering Congress held during 18-20 December 2020.
6. The Department successfully conducted 1st SME NITK Annual Convention on 06th-07th March 2020, 2nd SME NITK Annual Convention on 05th-06th March 2021, and 3rd SME NITK Annual Convention on 11th-12th March 2022.
7. Dr. K. Ram Chandar is awarded the “Engineering Gold Medal-2018’ from MGMI for outstanding contribution to earth science (awarded on 8th Nov. 2019)
8. Dr. M. Aruna and Prof. Ch. S. N. Murthy have received the Best Paper Award for the technical paper entitled “Experimental Investigation on the Influence of Humidity on PV Panel Performance”, at 2nd International Conference on Paradigms in Engineering & Technology (ICPET-2018) held at Hyderabad during 28-29 December 2018.
9. Dr. B. M. Kunar has received an Outstanding reviewer award from the Journal of Safety Science (Elsevier Publisher), 2019.

11. Prof. Ch. S. N. Murthy and Dr. R. P. Choudhary got the IRES Excellent Paper award for the paper entitled "Reliability Analysis of Dumpers in Limestone Mine based on Weibull Distribution". 2017.
